For those doing the Family Tree project:

At our teacher's conference this past week, I went to a sectional on US History and this was one of the resources I was given:

http://www.myheritage.com/

Check it out! While it may not be needed for the project, it may be a neat thing to share with other family members and you can even trace your ancestors back further! It is a FREE site unlike other sites that have a fee to use.

500 Word Summary

By now, the research is hopefully wrapping up and the project is in full swing. Here is just a brief reminder on what should be included in that 500 word summary:

                       Title of the project
The reason you chose the project
How your project shows the hand of God guiding the course of everything that happens throughout history
Methods used to create the project you chose
Special research needed to complete your project
Knowledge gained through completing this project
                        Unique information on chosen topic
                        Bibliography of sources

In the past, student have done this in a report style with headings.  The headings are nice because it is a good check for you to make sure you have all of the criteria listed complete and it is easy for the judges to read.

Below are two great examples of  report covers. One is clear and the other is basically a folder but has the ability to three hole punch the report to hold it in place. It keeps the report neat and is a professional way to present it. Both options below are at Office Max for under $3. These are not something the students MUST have, just another tip from your friendly, neighborhood Social Studies Fair coordinator.

Happy Writing!

Thanks to a Trinity parent for posting the following on facebook this past weekend:

Micheals on 27th Street has the Tri-poster boards for $4.99 and if you go to Micheals online you can print a coupon for 50 or 40% off.

Thanks for posting, Mrs. Y!

Keep up the good work, everyone...I cannot wait to see the finished products!

This is what the majority of students purchase to display their Social Studies projects. I found a few prices online:

Office Max - $15.49
Office Depot - $8.49
Staples - $7.79
Target - Prices vary but was listed online to be under $5

Not all projects NEED to have one of these. Some projects will use different types of displays. Whatever the student chooses to use, it should be attractive and easy to read.

Miss Lau's tip of the week: Do not hand write anything that goes on the report board. Type everything out on the computer using bigger fonts, print off, and paste to the board. It helps the project to look neat and unified.
